Arai Hiroshi, Hanshi 8-Dan and his students, demonstrating kata from the “Kage” set of techniques. Arai Sensei is a former police instructor, and represents the Tokyo or Keishicho style of Jodo.
Shinto Muso-ryu was founded by Muso Gonnosuke after he lost a duel to Miyamoto Musashi. He went to a shrine on Mt. Hongan, near Dazaifu, and prayed for a divine revelation. A young boy appeared to him and said “Wielding a round stick, know the solar plexus.” He used this to develop techniques which, according to legend, allowed him to defeat Musashi in a rematch.
